Warrant vacated for no-show sex offender vacated
Brandon Burley McLean, 24, of Fredericton, faces a charge of failing to comply with court order requiring him to register due to 2019 sexual assault
A judge has vacated a warrant issued for a Fredericton man’s arrest after he didn’t appear in court last week to answer to a charge of breaching a sex-offender registration order.
Brandon “Quinn” Burley McLean, 24, of Regent Street in Fredericton, is charged with failing to comply with a court order issued under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA) by not reporting to the registration centre as required between March 1 and April 1, 2022.
He was scheduled to appear in Fredericton provincial court to enter a plea March 20, but he wasn’t present when Judge Natalie LeBlanc called the case.
Court heard police believe McLean was avoiding police efforts to serve him with an appearance notice. As a result, LeBlanc issued a warrant for his arrest.
However, court records now show that Judge Cameron Gunn vacated the warrant for McLean, and that he was released on conditions.
He’s now scheduled to answer to the SOIRA charge April 14.
The registration order was imposed by a court on McLean after he pleaded guilty to a summary count of sexual assault, which occurred in November 2019.
The victim’s identity in that case is protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
