Sex offender is no-show for court, warrant issued
Brandon Burley McLean, 24, of Fredericton, is accused of failing to comply with registration order imposed after 2019 sexual assault
A convicted sex offender scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday on an allegation he skipped a required registration appointment failed to show up in court.
Brandon Burley McLean, 24, of Regent Street in Fredericton, faces a criminal charge alleging he failed to comply with a court order issued under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act.
The charge alleges he failed to report in person to register as required between March 1 and April 1, 2022.
When Fredericton provincial court Judge Natalie LeBlanc called his case Monday, McLean wasn’t present.
Crown prosecutor Rodney Jordan presented the court with an affidavit from Fredericton police Const. Rob O’Donnell, indicating the city police force believes McLean has either fled the jurisdiction or has been avoiding service of his notice to appear in court.
As such, LeBlanc issued a warrant for McLean’s arrest.
McLean is subject to the sex-offender registration order as a result of a conviction for a summary count of sexual assault, to which he’d previously pleaded guilty and for which he was sentenced.
That crime occurred between Nov. 1 and 2, 2019, and the victim’s identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban.
