Jacob Gautreau, 25, of Canterbury Drive in Fredericton; and Gabriel Green, 33, of Hiawatha Court in Oromocto; are both accused of breaking into the Welomukotuk (Oromocto) First Nation home of Mitchell Vienneau-Polchies on April 16, attempting to rob Vienneau-Polchies of cash while armed with weapons, and assaulting him with those weapons.
The charges allege Gautreau brandished a knife during the incident, and that Green had a crowbar.
Green appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from jail Wednesday, represented by Dieppe defence lawyer Wanda Severns, also appeared by phone.
Green elected to be tried in provincial court and pleaded not guilty to all three counts.
Judge Scott Brittain scheduled his trial for June 29.
Gautreau also answered to the charges, but on Thursday and in person. He’s represented by Fredericton defence lawyer T.J. Burke, but his associate, Emily Cochrane, appeared with the defendant Thursday.
He too elected to be tried in provincial court and pleaded not guilty to all counts, and Brittain scheduled his trial for May 15, 2024.
Green’s got a quicker trial date because he was remanded pending the outcome of the case after his bail hearing, unlike Gautreau, who was released on conditions.
