Terrified for her grandson’s safety, woman who forked over $18,000 to fraudsters was trying to withdraw $36,000 more when bank official redirected her to police
Should automatically be DEPORTED!!! The defense lawyer was quoted as saying, "The offender was denied refugee status upon his arrival in Canada from the United States, he was deemed “a protected person.” That means his convictions don’t automatically trigger a deportation, but rather a review. It remains to be seen, if Mohamed will be allowed to remain in Canada after his release from jail. Canada protects him and he has the nerve to do this to our people....Send him back!! He is obviously just taking up space!
These people do not deserve to be left with these physiological damages!
I am ashamed that you would share this when the victim clearly stated they were worried people would find out. I know this is your job but shame on you.
I completely understand your reaction, and it's never my intent to exacerbate people's pain. But in almost every court case, there's someone who doesn't want people to know the details. Sometimes the defendants, sometimes the victims.
As has been my philosophy for a long time, sharing these stories, as painful as they can be, has the potential to help someone else. It can help future victims avoid the same pain, and it can even help redirect people who could end up committing such crimes themselves. And putting names to these stories drives home the reality of them, makes it harder to dismiss them as something that happens only to others.
Believe me, I was reluctant to shine a light on this woman's pain, but I felt I had to be true to the principles of my profession. With the Fredericton Independent, I'm endeavouring to be direct, not to shy away from uncomfortable truths -- even if it makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't feel shame because of that, but I do feel the weight of it.
