Nasonworth man admits to firearms offences, other crimes
Roger Munn, 53, had been accused of making his own handgun using a 3D printer, as well as numerous other weapons-related charges
A Nasonworth man facing 13 criminal counts - including one alleging he used a 3D printer to fashion a handgun from scratch - has admitted to most of the charges against him.
Roger Munn, 53, of Route 101, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from a remand facility Wednesday to answer to 13 criminal charges stemming from events over the past several months.
Fredericton defence lawyer T.J. Burke was on hand to represent Munn, and he noted his client was electing to be tried in provincial court on all matters.
Munn pleaded guilty to 10 of the 13 charges against him:
- uttering a threat to Tanya and Austin Munn to cause them death and/or bodily harm between June 1-30;
- assaulting Tanya Munn with a weapon (an umbrella) between Nov. 15-30;
- pointing a firearm at Tanya Munn and possessing a handgun for a purpose dangerous to the public peace Jan. 24;
- carrying a concealed weapon (a handgun), possessing a rifle knowing the serial number had been removed from it, possessing a loaded restricted firearm (a handgun) without authorization or a licence, possessing a prohibited weapon (a rifle) without a licence, possessing prohibited devices (11 over-capacity magazines and two suppressors); and possessing methamphetamine, all on Jan. 26
The three Jan. 26 charges the Crown is expected to withdraw once Munn is sentenced are careless storage of eight rifles and a handgun, possession of seven non-restricted rifles without a licence, and the manufacture of a firearm when he wasn’t authorized to do so.
The latter charge stemmed from an RCMP allegation Munn had used a 3D printer to make his own handgun. It’s unclear if the anticipated withdrawal of that charge means it couldn’t be proven, or if it was just part of a quid pro quo in the plea negotiation.
Judge Brian MacLean ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report and victim-impact statements, and he scheduled Munn’s sentencing hearing for May 12.
He remanded the defendant again until that time.
