Stephen Blackwood, 37, was arrested after police received complaints of a man video-recording children in hotel pools, subsequently charged with crimes in Moncton area
I really don't think we can fix a pedophile ever. So what do we do with them ? This man has hurt children and more then once as we can see from his behavior and charges. "Public alerts were issued in Newfoundland and Labrador as well, where Blackwood once worked with children as a substitute teacher." We need to do better for our children and think of the public safety before this guy get's out of jail. IDK -- Thanks Don and lets see what happens next.
Not really when he was a teacher and this -- "Public alerts were issued in Newfoundland and Labrador as well, where Blackwood once worked with children as a substitute teacher." But I do understand you have to say that . Stay safe
The sad part is he's actually innocent, a man living with autism. Mark likes to play and have fun, What has happened to him is an outrage, and if you're the one who wrote this story without having even one conversation with him, shame on you, and congratulations on helping ruined his life
2) Journalists have no way to gain access to people on remand. Furthermore, when it comes to court coverage, journalistic privilege only applies to what's said in court. Statements made outside of court are a different matter. They can be published, but there's a different set of rules that apply. (I am the person who wrote this story... months ago.)
3) You are clearly close to Mr. Blackwood and care for him, and that's fine and great for him. But as such, you have to recognize that your perspective on this case is incredibly biased. That's not a criticism, just an obvious fact.
4) The reality is that most people who make their way through the courts have personal issues or conditions that were contributing factors to what led them to court. Mr. Blackwood has existed as an adult in society for years, but just because he gets in trouble, that doesn't mean he can be infantilized and treated as a child. Furthermore, many of his offences would be criminal even for a 13-year-old.

Again, at this point, Mr. Blackwood is only accused of these crimes. It's premature to refer to him as a pedophile.

1) He pleaded guilty, so he's not innocent.
