Trial dates set for Adam Crowley, 29, of Oromocto, but defence is exploring application for psychiatric exam to determine possible exemption from criminal responsibility
How do they differentiate between mentally ill people and jut plain mean to their spouses , big bossy type males, who are NOT letting them leave them for better lives?? Most can fake being sorry to both the Judge and their intimate partners.
Not criminal responsible (NCR) and mentally ill aren't synonymous terms. To be deemed NCR, yes, one has to be found to be suffering from a mental illness at the time, but that's just an initial criterion. It has to be to such a degree that the offender didn't appreciate the nature or consequence of his/her actions at the time.
Lots of people going through the courts suffer from mental illness yet are still deemed to be responsible for their actions. Invariably, substance abuse tends to be a symptoms of mental illness and/or past trauma. Mental illness can give rise to impulse-control issues, anger issues, etc. Furthermore, "faking" remorse really isn't a factor in making NCR determinations or findings of guilt.
"Faking remorse " has too often kept the woman in the home with her children, knowing that he is not good for them either. So she hides her black eyes one more time, tries again and ends up dead often along with her children. If women were killing their intimate partners, male, the world would wake up and do something, teaching boys in school or better still teaching the girls what to watch out for. Their lives depend on it.
I've been covering courts and crime for a quarter century. I know exactly of what you speak.
But your initial comment conflated the issue of mental illness, criminal responsibility and domestic-violence cycles. These are two different conversations.
I am aware of that. Just took the opportunity to air some of this Abusive men thing. Racism, homophobia, Islamophobia, abuse of natives, child abuse, elder abuse, etc, all seem to matter a great deal and get lots of coverage. Intimate partner abuse has always been behind the shadows, seems to be almost an epidemic now and still is hush hush, compared to the aforementioned lesser problems.
You're aware that you're saying no one talks about domestic violence in a comment on a public news story on a domestic-violence prosecution, right? There are several other stories on this site about such crimes as well.
It is "talked" about but nothing ever done about teaching boys in school or whatever so they will know that a woman is not responsible for their bad moods, unreasonable waiting on, isolating them from friends and family, I could go on and on. She is not some THING he owns ever. Some of them even kill their children too. They are too sick to be on the loose. At least now, a woman can contact RCMP and ask if her new BEAU has had any complaints against him for spousal abuse. ONE step in the right direction. Do you remember "Life with Billy?"
