Inmate was aggressor in jail incident - province
Scott Alexander Morrison, 41, formerly of Geary, suing province for injuries sustained in Saint John Regional Correctional Centre; lower court ruled guards assaulted him in 2022
The province says a violent confrontation between a detainee and correctional officers was the prisoner’s fault, despite a judge’s finding in a criminal case that guards had assaulted the inmate.
Scott Alexander Morrison, 41, of Saint John but formerly of Geary, filed a notice of action and statement of claim against the provincial government earlier this year seeking damages for injuries he sustained at the hands of correctional officers at the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on Sept. 27, 2022.

He’s alleging jail guards used excessive force when they shoved him, threw him to the floor, kneeled on him, kneed and kicked him, and punched him, with many of the blows being inflicted after he was handcuffed and lying face down on the floor.
The government and the institution filed a statement of defence with the Court of King’s Bench in Fredericton on May 22, denying Morrison’s allegations of abuse, assault and mistreatment.
