A former Geary resident who was sentenced to prison time for drug offences is suing the province because he was assaulted in a provincial jail while on remand two years ago.

Scott Alexander Morrison, 41, formerly of Branch Road in Geary but now residing in Saint John, was sentenced to almost five years in federal prison in December 2022 for drug offences committed in the summer of 2021.

However, now he’s suing government for his treatment in custody as his case made its way through the criminal justice system.

In a notice of action and statement of claim filed with the Court of King's Bench in Fredericton on March 14, Morrison names the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre and the provincial government as defendants in the lawsuit.
