Fredericton Police Force mum on how they learned who motorist who hit child riding bicycle was, if charges are expected as result of incident in front of northside mall
The driver who allegedly struck a girl on a bicycle last week in front of the Brookside Mall has been identified, the Fredericton Police Force reports, but it’s not saying if charges are forthcoming.
The city police force reported Thursday afternoon a girl riding her bike was struck by a grey pickup or SUV at about 4 p.m. that day as it turned onto Brookside Drive as it exited the Brookside Mall parking lot.
The driver, reported to be a male, got out of the vehicle and checked on the child, police said in a post on social media, but then he got back in the vehicle and left the scene.
The girl was treated at the scene for a minor injury, it said.
Police called on the motorist to contact them.
Fredericton Police Force spokesperson Megan Barker advised Monday morning the motorist in question has been identified.
The Fredericton Independent also inquired if charges were pending as a result of the incident, but she didn’t provide that information.
“As the file remains under investigation, no further information is available at this time,” Barker wrote in an email.
The update didn’t indicate how police came to learn the driver’s identity - whether he contacted police himself or if someone else provided a tip.
