Former deputy attorney general, deputy justice minister Yassin Choukri, 56, admitted to taking almost $500,000 of client cash while practising law in Fredericton in 2014-16
If you knew him, he wasn’t a bad man. I worked for Yaz for 3 and a half years and he really was a great lawyer. Yassin’s fault was an addiction. Sadly, addictions take over people and more significantly, their mind. I’ve known far too many people with various addictions and who they are with the addiction as opposed to without are very different and many of their choices, important ones at least, are much different when in recovery. If you yourself have been lucky enough to avoid addiction of any sort, count yourself lucky, but also keep in mind to keep judgements to yourself because sometimes, tables turn to teach you a lesson, and I can assure you, it sucks.
