Cops renew call for tips on Benton man
Edward (Eddie) Hayes, 30, rammed police cruiser, caused damage at RCMP station and Woodstock courthouse, RCMP reports, and it released new photo in quest for information
The Mounties issued a renewed plea for tips from the public Thursday on the whereabouts of an Upper River Valley man accused of ramming a police cruiser and damaging property last week.
The Western Valley region detachment of the RCMP reported July 25 that officers were trying to locate Edward (Eddie) Hayes, 30, of Benton, after a series of alleged offences that occurred earlier that same day.
“On July 25, 2025, members of the Western Valley region RCMP were patrolling in Benton, N.B., when they came across an individual driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with no helmet,” it said.
Police identified the man as Hayes, noting he was known to authorities and was subject to several conditions, including a prohibition against driving and use of an electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet, which he’d allegedly cut off.
The release said officers tried to stop Hayes, but he rammed a police vehicle with his ATV and fled.
“A short time later, police observed the man driving his ATV through the parking lot of the RCMP detachment in Woodstock and through the front lawn of the Woodstock provincial courthouse,” it said. “Both properties sustained minor damages.”
The RCMP issued an updated release Thursday, noting it was still on the lookout for Hayes. It also released a clearer photo of him.

Police said Hayes was last seen in the Woodstock region driving a camouflage ATV, clad in a T-shirt and shorts.
“If you see him, please do not approach, and call 911,” Thursday’s advisory said.
Anyone who has seen Hayes or otherwise has information on his whereabouts is urged to call the Western Valley region RCMP detachment at 506-325-3000.
