RCMP seeks Benton man who taunted them
Mounties say Edward (Eddie) Hayes, 30, cut off electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet, rammed police cruiser with ATV, caused damage at RCMP station, Woodstock courthouse
The RCMP in the Woodstock region is on the lookout for a suspect it says taunted officers and violated conditions, and it’s seeking tips from the public on his whereabouts.
The Western Valley region detachment of the RCMP issued a news release Friday afternoon, advising it’s trying to locate Edward (Eddie) Hayes, 30, of Benton, who’s wanted for several alleged offences.

“On July 25, 2025, members of the Western Valley region RCMP were patrolling in Benton, N.B., when they came across an individual driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with no helmet,” it said.
“The individual, a 30-year-old man from Benton, was known to police and is currently on several conditions, including being prohibited from driving, and being bound by an ankle monitor which he had cut off.”
The release said officers tried to stop the man, whom they identified as Hayes, but the suspect rammed a police vehicle with his ATV and fled.
“A short time later, police observed the man driving his ATV through the parking lot of the RCMP detachment in Woodstock and through the front lawn of the Woodstock provincial courthouse,” it said. “Both properties sustained minor damages.”
Hayes was last seen in the Woodstock region driving a camouflage ATV, clad in a T-shirt and shorts.
Police cautioned people from approaching him if they spot him, advising anyone who sees him to call 911.
Anyone who has seen Hayes or otherwise has information on his whereabouts is urged to call the Western Valley region RCMP detachment at 506-325-3000.
