City warns of new Fredericton Transit scam
Bogus Facebook page created this week tries to lure victims with $4 ridership card offer
A newly created Facebook page offering unlimited rides on Fredericton Transit buses for $4 for six months is a scam, and transit and city hall officials warned people against clicking on its links.
Fredericton Transit issued an advisory Thursday on its Facebook page about another page on the social-media site that was targeting people in the capital with a scam.

The page - called “Public transportation in Fredericton” - was just created Wednesday and features images taken from Fredericton Transit media depicting city buses.
Piggy-backing on genuine promotions of Fredericton Transit’s 50th anniversary, it purports to offer a six-month rideship card for only $4, encouraging users to click a link to avail themselves of the supposed offer.
City hall and Fredericton Transit warned it’s a scam.
“The only official sources for Fredericton Transit updates are Fredericton Transit and City of Fredericton government; please ensure you're following the correct account,” they said on social media.
“If you come across the scam account, report it and avoid interacting with it.”
The image collage on the bogus page is also a link, so users should avoid clicking on that as well.
The City of Saint John issued a similar advisory about an identical fraud scheme on Facebook referring to its transit services as well.
The latest scam comes on the heels of a similar fake Fredericton Transit offer on Facebook in mid-April that also referred to the service’s 50th anniversary.
