Don’t fall for Fredericton transit scam - city
Bogus social-media post offers too-good-to-be-true deal for six months of bus ridership
Fredericton Transit and city hall warned the public Friday about a scam making the rounds on social media, offering a deal for six months of ridership that’s definitely too good to be true.
Through its Facebook page, Fredericton Transit issued an advisory Friday about a bogus offer that’s actually a scam aimed at fleecing people interested in public transportation in the capital.

It shared a screen capture of the scam post, which offers residents the chance to purchase “a limited edition card” for only €2.35, urging quick action by claiming only 500 cards were available at that price.
The scam post capitalizes on a real promotional campaign celebrating Fredericton Transit’s 50th anniversary.
The use of Euro currency as the price for the fraudulent offer seems like a strong signal that it’s a scam.
The city and Fredericton Transit confirmed it’s a false offer and isn’t from a reputable source.
“The only official source for Fredericton Transit updates is Fredericton Transit and City of Fredericton Government [pages on Facebook],” the warning stated. “Please ensure you're following the correct account.”
Anyone who happens upon the scam account or offer is urged to report them and avoid interacting with them.
The scam account appears to use city promotional photos to convince potential victims of its legitimacy.
