that's correct. so he should be on suspended leave WITHOUT pay, until proven guilty or not. if he is not guilty, pay will be given to him retroactively.

So....you are ok if someone makes a possible false claim against you and they strip your pay for 6-60 months while it goes through the process? These protections are in place for a reason. Do I like it? Not really, but it is meant to protect the innocent.

The law doesn't allow police officers to be suspended without pay if not yet convicted of a crime. This is spelled out in the New Brunswick Police Act. A police chief doesn't have the option.
