Work planned this week on Fredericton span
Westmorland Street Bridge will see lane closures Thursday and Friday for maintenance
Update: The bridge maintenance work has been postponed to next week.
Those who rely on using the Westmorland Street Bridge may want to consider alternate routes later this week, as traffic is expected to be slower due to lane closures for bridge maintenance.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s online 511 map tool displaying traffic disruptions shows maintenance work is going to be conducted on the Westmorland Street Bridge in Fredericton starting Thursday morning at 9 a.m. until Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
It notes there will be lane closures in both directions, with one-lane traffic requiring motorists to reduce their speed.
“Watch for equipment and persons working,” the advisory states.
There is no such work planned on or around the Princess Margaret Bridge, the other main river crossing in the capital.
However, motorists should expect some traffic will divert to the Princess Margaret due to the expected slowdown on the Westmorland span, potentially increasing the usual traffic level on that bridge.
