Witness is no-show for robbery trial - twice
Provincial court judge also irked that detainee Nicholas Reginald Morehouse, 32, wasn’t brought to court in person Wednesday despite his presence being necessary, adjourns case
A trial for a Fredericton man who’s been in custody for months couldn’t proceed Wednesday because a key witness failed to show up for a second time and the defendant wasn’t brought to the courthouse.
Nicholas Reginald Morehouse, 32, of Albert Street, was scheduled to stand trial in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday on serious charges.
He faces Sept. 10 counts of robbery, alleging he used violence to steal a gold chain from Monte Dickeson, and possession of a weapon (a Taser) for the purpose of committing an offence; and Nov. 25 counts of possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a stolen 2012 Dodge Journey belonging to Marcus Gray on Nov. 25.
There’s also a Jan. 26, 2023, charge alleging a probation violation.
But when court convened for the trial before Judge Natalie LeBlanc on Wednesday morning, two key figures were absent from the courtroom: Morehouse and Dickeson.
