Weather alert upgraded to snowfall warning
Environment and Climate Change Canada now calling for as much as 20 centimetres of snow
The capital region and other areas of New Brunswick will see their first substantial snowfall this week and a special weather statement was upgraded to a snowfall warning early Thursday morning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a special weather statement Wednesday afternoon for southern, western and eastern New Brunswick, warning that snow in varying amounts was on the way.

“Significant snowfall is possible,” said the alert for Fredericton, York County and other surrounding communities.
The capital region could see as much as 15 centimetres of snow Thursday night into Friday morning, Wednesday’s advisory said.
But early Thursday morning, the service issued a snowfall warning for most of New Brunswick, expanding the advisory to include the Acadian Peninsula up north as well.
Now 15 to 20 cm is in the forecast for affected areas, including the Fredericton region.
And it appears it’s going to be wet.
“Rain or snow will develop this afternoon or evening and then change to snow and end on Friday,” the warning said.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”
The forecast for Fredericton is also calling for possible flurries later Friday and Saturday.
