Oromocto First Nation chief, family members accused of violent incident April 29
A criminal case involving nine members of the Welamukotuk (Oromocto) First Nation - including its chief - crawled forward Tuesday with defence counsel for all but one of them getting on the record.
The RCMP laid a joint information last month against nine residents of the Welamukotuk First Nation, alleging various individuals broke into a Wolastoq Court home on the reserve and assaulted Anthony O’Blenis and Sonya Atwin on April 29.
Charged in the case are Chief Shelley Marie Sabattis, 56, band councillor Allan J.W. Sabattis-Atwin, 36, Shawn Sabattis-Atwin, 43, Nikia William Sabattis, 40, Desirae Moon Stevens, 24, Drae Stevens, 20, Aubrey Landry, 29, Steven Robert Sabattis, 52, and Joel Berrios Jr., 36.
Some are charged with break, enter and assault on O’Blenis; some with break, enter and assault on Atwin; and others with assault on O’Blenis.
