The man accused of killing a Welamukotuk (Oromocto) First Nation woman a year ago will stand trial before a jury next year.
The case of Jared Josiah Smith, 39, of Route 102 in Burton, was before Court of King’s Bench Justice Terrence Morrison at the Burton Courthouse on Monday as part of motions day proceedings - essentially to schedule trial dates.

Smith is charged with second-degree murder in the April 27, 2024, death of Sheri Lynn Sabattis, 54.
The defendant appeared by telephone from a custodial facility where he’s remanded, and his defence lawyer, Gilles Lemieux, was on hand in person.
