A suspect in a violent robbery in Waasis in March who originally opted for a superior-court trial now wants to be tried in provincial court.

Brandon Jason Dean Canning, 40, formerly of Morehouse Road in Haneytown, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from the Saint John Regional Correctional Centre on Oct. 24.

He’d previously elected to be tried in the Court of King’s Bench by judge alone, without a jury, on March 9 charges of robbing Douglas Brown of a gold chain and oxycodone pills while armed with a handgun in Waasis, pointing the firearm at Brown, possessing it for the purpose of committing an offence, possessing it without a licence, possessing the handgun knowing he didn’t have a licence for it, using it carelessly and breaching a probation order.
