One of two men accused of a violent stickup in Waasis earlier this year wants his trial on various charges to be held in superior court, but before a judge alone, without a jury.

Brandon Jason Dean Canning, 39, of Morehouse Road in Haneytown, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from jail Wednesday for election of mode of trial on numerous charges.

He’s accused of robbing Douglas Brown of a gold chain and oxycodone pills while armed with a handgun, pointing that handgun at Brown, possessing it for the purpose of committing an offence, possessing it without a licence, possessing the handgun while he was aware he didn’t have a licence for it, using the weapon carelessly and breaching a probation order, all on March 9 in Waasis.
