Two teens in custody after alleged mall assault
Fredericton Police Force says three youths were arrested Wednesday after officers responded to report of weapon attack uptown; one girl released without conditions
Two teenage boys were held in custody after their arrests Wednesday stemming from a report of an assault with a weapon at an uptown mall, the Fredericton Police Force reports.
The police force issued a news release on social media Thursday, indicating officers responded to and investigated a violent incident at the Regent Mall on Wednesday evening.
“On Wednesday, Sept. 11 at approximately 7:50 p.m., members of the Fredericton Police Force patrol division responded to the Regent Mall after receiving a report of an assault involving a weapon in progress,” it said.
“Upon arrival, patrol members were advised that the suspects had departed the scene. The suspects involved were identified by officers based on statements collected from victims and witnesses.”
Police initially located and arrested two suspects - one underage male and one female, the force reported.
“At the time of their arrest, a weapon - a knife - and a quantity of drugs were seized,” the release said.
A third suspect - another teenage boy - was arrested later on Fredericton’s north side, the police said, and the force’s emergency response team assisted with that arrest.
The girl who was arrested was released without conditions, it said, while the two male youths were remanded pending a court appearance to face charges.
