Desperate to escape from police, a federal parolee from Fredericton smashed into a curb and disabled the car he was driving late last year, landing him back in prison, court heard Thursday.

Ian Keith Edwards, 26, of Aberdeen Street, pleaded guilty last month in Fredericton provincial court to fleeing from police in a motor vehicle and dangerous driving.

He was back before a judge Thursday, via video-conference from a federal prison, for sentencing.

Crown prosecutor Monika Bereyi told the court a city police officer was on patrol in an unmarked cruiser when he spotted a Chrysler at a known drug house on Irvine Street, and that car pulled away from the location.
