Two B.C. men die in New Brunswick crash
Three other passengers in single-vehicle accident in Coles Island early Thursday survived
Two men from British Columbia died early Thursday when their vehicle lost control and left the road in Coles Island, the RCMP reports.
The force issued a news release Thursday about an early-morning incident in Coles Island, about 80 kilometres east of Fredericton, involving a lone vehicle occupied by five people.
“On May 1, 2025, at approximately 1:20 a.m., members of the Sussex RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 2, near mile marker 355 in Coles Island,” it said.
“The driver and front passenger of the vehicle - a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, both from British Columbia - died at the scene as a result of their injuries.”
Three other passengers in the vehicle survived, the release said, noting they were transported to hospital with various injuries.
“The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle, travelling westbound, lost control and crossed the centre line before leaving the roadway and striking several trees,” it said.
Personnel with the Coles Island Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick also responded to the scene, as did an RCMP collision reconstructionist.
An official with the New Brunswick coroner’s office is also assisting with the ongoing investigation, the release said, and the two decedents will undergo autopsies to determine their exact causes of death.
