Two arrested at scene after vehicle smashed into doors of downtown gas station
A car smashed into the entrance of a downtown gas station early Thursday morning in what police describe as an attempted robbery at the business.
The Fredericton Police Force advised on social media early Thursday that officers and other first responders were on the scene at 181 King St., the location of the downtown Irving gas station and Circle K store.
Police spokesperson Sonya Gilks later told the Fredericton Independent that police officers and firefighters responded to the business after receiving a call at about 5:30 a.m. about an attempted robbery in progress.
“Upon arrival, they discovered a car had entered the front of the building, causing significant damage,” Gilks wrote in an email.
“The two male individuals who were involved were arrested at the scene. One person sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital by [emergency medical services].”
She said the investigation is ongoing.
After 9 a.m. Thursday, the gas pumps at the station were cordoned off with yellow tape, and vehicles and signs were used to block vehicular access to the premises.
Officials with the business said Thursday morning it would definitely be closed for the day.
