Trial dates set in Sitansisk elder’s death
Jury will hear case of 18-year-old charged with second-degree murder in June 2024 fatal stabbing of Mark “Barnzie” Albert Brooks II for four weeks starting in November 2026
An 18-year-old man will stand trial before a jury on a second-degree murder charge, stemming from the June 2024 stabbing death of a Sitansisk elder, in the fall of 2026.
The defendant - who can’t be identified because he was only 17 at the time of his alleged offence - appeared in person and in custody at the Burton Courthouse on Monday before Justice Richard Petrie for motions day.

The young man was charged with second-degree murder in the wake of the June 21, 2024, stabbing death of Sitansisk (St. Mary’s) First Nation elder Mark “Barnzie” Albert Brooks II, 71, in the parking lot of Tim Hortons on Union Street in Fredericton.
