Tobique man’s death not suspicious - RCMP
Alan Mick Moulton, 33, who went missing Friday in Arthurette, found in wooded area in Perth-Andover region, say police; provincial coroner’s office handling case, autopsy ordered
The Neqotkuk (Tobique) First Nation man reported as being missing for several days was found deceased in a wooded area near Perth-Andover, an RCMP spokesperson said Tuesday, noting criminality isn’t suspected.
Alan Mick Moulton, 33, was reported as missing to police, the RCMP’s Perth-Andover detachment said in a news release Monday.
“ … Moulton was last seen on the evening of May 24, 2024, at 10 p.m., near Birch Ridge Road, in Arthurette, N.B.,” the release said.
“Police have followed up on several leads to try and locate him, but have so far been unsuccessful. Police and his family are concerned for his well-being.”
But a followup release Tuesday morning, the RCMP reported Moulton’s body had been found.
“Our thoughts are with the man's family and community at this time,” the update stated.
While the release gave no indication if criminality was suspected as a factor in his death, Cpl. James Gallant of the Perth-Andover told the Fredericton Independent on Tuesday afternoon that a criminal probe wasn’t underway.
“At this time, it’s still a Coroner’s Act investigation,” he said, noting an autopsy has been ordered.
Unless the provincial coroner’s office provides the RCMP with any new information based on that autopsy, Gallant said, police aren’t treating it as a suspicious death.
He said the body was found in a wooded area in the Perth-Andover region late Monday afternoon, a few hours after the missing-person report was made public.
Gallant declined to discuss the cause of death.
