Triple-stabbing suspect detained pending bail hearing - police
One victim required surgery due to violent incident at Twenty/20 Club in the early-morning hours Saturday
Three people were stabbed in an incident early Saturday morning, police report, and a suspect arrested at the scene is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
The Fredericton Police Force issued a news release Saturday afternoon advising that numerous officers - including members of the major crime team and the forensic identification unit - responded to “a serious weapons complaint” at a southside business at 1:45 a.m. Saturday.
“A patron had been asked to leave the premises and subsequently stabbed two staff members and one other patron,” the release said.
“Police arrested an individual on scene without incident.”
The stabbing victims were taken to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, it said, noting that two of the victims were held overnight and one required surgery.
The Twenty/20 Club - a bar located on Regent Street - noted in a Facebook post hours after the incident that it was the site of the stabbing.
“As many of you are aware there was an unfortunate incident at our establishment last evening,” the post stated.
“We at the Twenty/20 club take the safety of our staff and customers extremely seriously and can assure you this matter is being looked into swiftly and diligently.”
The police force news release didn’t indicate if the person arrested was male or female, though spokesperson Sonya Gilks did tell the Fredericton Independent the suspect made a weekend remand court appearance and has been held for a bail hearing.
Gilks declined to name the suspect.
