‘That’s my family, for fuck’s sake!’
Daniel Whittaker, 24, curses out court as he’s remanded on charges alleging violence
A capital-region man arrested on allegations of attacking family members and wielding an axe let loose with profanities during his initial telephone court appearance Wednesday.
Daniel Whittaker, 24, of no fixed address, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from the cellblock at the RCMP station in Oromocto on Wednesday.
He was charged with summary counts of assault on Steven McLaughlin and Patricia Whittaker, as well as carrying a weapon (an axe) for a purpose dangerous to the public peace and breaching a police undertaking to refrain from possessing weapons.
The charges all allege events in Tracy on Tuesday.
Crown prosecutor Rodney Jordan objected to Daniel Whittaker’s release Wednesday and applied to revoke any undertakings or release orders to which he was subject as well.
The prosecutor also asked the court to impose an order barring him from having any contact with the named complainants in the assault charges.
“That’s my family, for fuck’s sake!” the defendant said over the phone.
“I don’t even know who Jordan is.”
Judge Natalie LeBlanc explained Jordan was the prosecutor in court Wednesday.
“Why the fuck am I being framed for all this shit?!” Whittaker said angrily.
The judge told him a duty counsel lawyer with Legal Aid New Brunswick would assist him at his bail hearing and could explain to him what the specifics of the allegations are giving rise to the charges.
“Fuckin’ psychos,” Whittaker said.
LeBlanc remanded him pending his bail hearing, which she scheduled for Thursday.
