Teens’ dispute rooted in jealousy - court filing
Muslim student denies clash with Jewish classmate stemmed from anti-semitic sentiment
A Muslim girl being sued by a Jewish classmate at a Fredericton school says it was the plaintiff’s jealousy over a boy, not anti-semitism on her part, that led to violence between them.
In a highly publicized case, a Jewish girl enrolled at Leo Hayes High School (LHHS) and her father, acting as her litigation guardian, filed suit last fall against the Anglophone West district education council, a fellow Leo Hayes student and her parents over alleged assaults at the northside school a year ago.
The plaintiff alleges the other student, who’s Muslim, attacked her twice April 30, 2024, once inside the school and again just off school grounds, and her lawsuit contends the motive for the incident was anti-semitism.
There’s a court-ordered publication ban in effect protecting the identities of the two girls.
