Teen manslaughter suspect released
17-year-old Woodstock-area boy charged after alleged victim of Sept. 22 assault in Tannery died days later; Crown initially objected to his release but changed its position Tuesday
The teenage boy who was remanded last week after being charged with manslaughter stemming from a violent incident in downtown Fredericton has been released from custody on conditions.
The 17-year-old Woodstock-area boy - who can’t be identified, as per the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act - was charged Oct. 3 with manslaughter and remanded pending a bail hearing.
The charge stems from the death last month of André Bourgeois, 41, of Grande-Digue.
The manslaughter charge alleges the youth caused or significantly contributed to the man’s death by assaulting him in the Tannery, Fredericton’s downtown bar district, on Sept. 22.
