Fredericton Police Force says Tyler Jones, 25, was returned to prison after Oct. 23 altercation
An offender was returned to federal prison after an encounter with officers last month during which he allegedly rammed a police vehicle, according to the Fredericton Police Force.
The force issued a news release Friday about an Oct. 23 incident that it said led to the arrest of four people and charges against one of them - who was released on conditions from prison.
“On Oct. 23, 2024, members of the Fredericton police street crime unit and integrated enforcement unit, assisted by patrol division, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle bearing a fictitious licence plate after it turned into a parking lot on the south side of Fredericton,” the release said.
“As members attempted the traffic stop, the vehicle deliberately collided into an unmarked police car while attempting to flee. The vehicle was effectively stopped, and four occupants were taken into custody without further incident.”
Three of those suspects, all female occupants of the suspect vehicle, were released at the scene soon thereafter, the force reported, but the driver - Tyler Jones, 25 - was held in custody.
He now faces charges of flight from police, dangerous driving and assault on police with a weapon, the release said.
It turns out Jones had been granted statutory release from federal prison on conditions days before the incident, it said, and as a result of the events of Oct. 23, Correctional Service Canada issued a warrant of apprehension, and he was returned to federal custody.
He’s due back in Fredericton provincial court Nov. 26 to elect mode of trial and enter pleas.
