The whereabouts of an unhoused and self-represented man who denied an allegation he torched a historic gazebo in a downtown Fredericton park last summer remains a mystery to authorities.

Jesse Cole Jackson, 37, of no fixed address, elected to be tried in Fredericton provincial court and pleaded not guilty in November to a charge that he caused damage by fire to the gazebo in Wilmot Park on July 2, 2024.

He didn’t have a lawyer at the time but nevertheless insisted on entering his election and plea, and his trial was scheduled for Nov. 20, 2025.
