Suspect accused of witness intimidation
Isaiah Joseph Ernest Bonnar, 23, of Burton, was scheduled to stand trial Tuesday on assault, sex-assault allegations, but defence counsel requested to be removed from record
A Burton man’s trial on charges alleging violence against a woman last year was postponed after his defence counsel said she could no longer continue on the case, and after new charges were filed.
A trial for Isaiah Joseph Ernest Bonnar, 23, of Irene Street in Burton, was scheduled to stand trial Tuesday and Wednesday on a long list of criminal charges alleging offences against a woman in Lincoln and elsewhere in the capital region.
However, the case was brought before the Fredericton provincial court Monday because there were some new developments.
Bonnar now faces new, related charges, alleging he attempted to obstruct or pervert the course of justice by trying to dissuade the woman from testifying “by corrupt means,” intimidating the woman by trying to provoke a state of fear in her, and violating a court order barring him from communicating with the complainant while he’s in custody.
