Suspect accused of ramming cop car arrested
Mounties had sought tips on whereabouts of Edward (Eddie) Hayes, 30, of Benton, after he allegedly rammed RCMP cruiser, caused damage at Woodstock detachment, courthouse
The Benton man accused of ramming a police cruiser with an ATV and causing damage at an RCMP detachment and the Woodstock courthouse has been found and arrested, the Mounties report.
The Western Valley region detachment of the RCMP issued an advisory July 25 that it was looking for Edward (Eddie) Hayes, 30, of Benton, after a series of alleged offences that occurred earlier that day.
“On July 25, 2025, members of the Western Valley region RCMP were patrolling in Benton, N.B., when they came across an individual driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) with no helmet,” it said.
Police identified the man as Hayes, noting he was known to authorities and was subject to several conditions, including a prohibition against driving and use of an electronic-monitoring ankle bracelet, which he’d allegedly cut off.
Police reported that Hayes rammed a police vehicle with his ATV when officers tried to stop him, and he fled the scene.
“A short time later, police observed the man driving his ATV through the parking lot of the RCMP detachment in Woodstock and through the front lawn of the Woodstock provincial courthouse,” it said. “Both properties sustained minor damages.”
The Mounties warned that if anyone saw Hayes, they shouldn’t approach him and should just call police.
In an update posted Saturday, about three weeks after the initial incident, the Western Valley region detachment reported that Hayes had been arrested, and it thanked the public for its assistance.
The RCMP didn’t indicate what charges Hayes might face, if he was being held for remand court or if he was released on conditions.
