Suspect accused of axe attack on two men
Richard Andrew Hunter, 47, of Napadogan, charged with assaulting two people in Fredericton with axe Sunday; bail hearing set for Thursday
A Napadogan man arrested in Fredericton on Sunday for allegedly attacking two other men with an axe will remain in custody until his bail hearing later this week.
Richard Andrew Hunter, 47, of Third Street in Napadogan, about 70 kilometres north of Fredericton, appeared briefly in provincial court Monday.
He was charged with using a weapon (an axe) to assault Elias Eliakis and Matthew Hunter, uttering a threat to those complainants to cause them death and/or bodily harm and possessing the axe for a purpose dangerous to the public peace.
The Fredericton Police Force charges all allege events in the capital Sunday.
Crown prosecutor Marc-André Desjardins objected to Hunter’s release Monday, and Judge Mary Jane Richards remanded the defendant until a bail hearing, which she scheduled for Thursday.
The judge also granted Desjardins’ request for an order barring Hunter from communicating with the complainants while he’s in custody.
