Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story included a subheadline that mistakenly indicated the accused had given police a false name, when his obstruction offence involving fleeing from an officer. We regret the error.

A university student charged criminally over a couch being set on fire last summer won’t have a criminal record as a result of that interaction with police.

Caysey William Walton, 21, of Kings College Road, had faced charges failing to prevent the spread of a fire to a couch and obstructing a Fredericton police officer engaged in the execution of his duty, both alleged to have occurred Aug. 31.

He pleaded guilty in the spring to the obstruction charge, and he was back in Fredericton provincial court for sentencing Tuesday.
