Stolen car rammed cop cruisers - police
Two youths remain in custody after April 8 incident in downtown area, force reports
A youth suspect located in a stolen vehicle rammed police cruisers in an attempt to flee last week, the Fredericton Police Force reports, and after three people were arrested, a loaded firearm was found.
The city police force issued a news release Tuesday morning about an incident it said occurred a week prior that saw damage done to three police cruisers, arrests effected and the seizure of a firearm.
It said officers located a stolen vehicle at about 10:05 p.m. April 8 when responding to an unrelated call on Brunswick Street.
Inside the car were two youths and a 42-year-old man, the release said.
“When officers approached the vehicle to make an arrest, the driver attempted to flee by ramming three marked police vehicles, causing minor damage to all units,” it said.
“Officers safely arrested all three occupants and seized a loaded modified 22-calibre firearm from under the driver’s seat. No one was injured.”
The 16-year-old boy who’s alleged to have been driving the stolen car is facing charges of assaulting police officers with a weapon, possessing the stolen vehicle, fleeing from police, using a firearm in a careless manner, possessing the firearm without authorization, occupying a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm therein, possessing the loaded and prohibited firearm, violating a court-ordered firearms prohibition and breaching a probation order.
The other youth - a 15-year-old boy - is accused of breaching the conditions of a release order, the release said, noting both underage defendants remain in custody.
The adult suspect was released on conditions and is expected to face drug-related charges in court at a later date, it said.
