Minto firearm suspect in custody - RCMP
RCMP issued alerts about armed suspect in Minto area late Sunday afternoon, but new Alert Ready message shortly before 7 p.m. indicates police operation is over
The RCMP advised Sunday evening the emergency situation in the Minto area - which involved a search for a man with a firearm - was over.
“Due to an active situation in Minto, residents are asked to stay inside and lock their doors,” the RCMP wrote on its Twitter and Facebook feeds shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday.

The initial advisory offered no other details, but in an Alert Ready emergency message to cellphones and broadcast signals in the region, the RCMP reported officers were “searching for a male reported to be carrying a firearm with intent to use it near Pleasant Drive in Minto.”
The suspect was reported to be 55 years old, driving a silver, four-door Nissan with no hubcaps.
But in a subsequent Alert Ready message at about 6:43 p.m. Sunday, the Mounties notified the public the situation was resolved.
“The RCMP operation in the Minto area is over,” it stated. “Residents may exit their homes and return to normal activities.”
It noted on the RCMP’s New Brunswick website that officers had one person in custody.
The message noted that officers will remain in the area as the investigation continues.
While the adjacent villages of Minto and Chipman amalgamated with five other nearby local service districts at the outset of 2023 to become the community of Grand Lake, the areas are still commonly referred to by their previous names.
