The suspect arrested after a standoff and shelter-in-place alert that lasted for hours on Fredericton’s north side Thursday is a former federal inmate wanted for breaching release conditions.

Vincent John Ryan Currie, 42, formerly of Fredericton, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from the Fredericton police station cellblock Friday morning.

The Fredericton Police Force charged him with being unlawfully at large before the expiration of a federal sentence, alleging events in Fredericton on Thursday.
