Southside man accused of impersonating doc
Charge alleges Trevor R. Marney, 51, posed as physician last year to gain custody of child
A Fredericton man will be back in court next month to enter a plea on a charge that he tried to pose as a well-known Fredericton doctor as part of a scheme to get custody of a child.
Trevor R. Marney, 51 of Flemming Road, made his first appearance in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday.
He’s charged with fraudulently personating Dr. Sara Davidson on Jan. 26, 2023, to obtain child custody.
Davidson is a noted family doctor based at the Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre on King Street and is well known as an addictions-treatment specialist and for working with vulnerable and unhoused individuals.
Fredericton lawyer Emily Cochrane - appearing Wednesday as an agent for Marney’s defence counsel T.J. Burke - said the defendant was seeking an adjournment so Burke can obtain disclosure of the Crown file.
Judge Natalie LeBlanc set the matter over to Feb. 13 for plea.
