Snow event shifts to Thursday to Saturday
Special weather statement from Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service adjusted to reflect new timeline for heavy, wet snow forecast to affect travelling conditions
The federal weather service is sticking by its prediction for a three-day snowfall event this week, but it’s updated its special weather statement to reflect a new schedule for the springtime winter blast.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a special weather statement early Tuesday morning, advising that heavy, wet snow is expected in the province this week.
At the time, it called for the system to begin Wednesday night and continue into Friday.
But in a new special weather statement issued Wednesday for all of New Brunswick, it has bumped the prediction ahead a day.
“Multi-day significant snowfall event beginning Thursday morning,” the advisory said.
It called for snow to begin Thursday morning and continue into Saturday throughout the province.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is now predicting 10 to 25 centimetres of snow during that period, with the potential for more in northeastern New Brunswick.
“The snow is likely to be very wet and heavy in nature. This, along with blustery easterly winds, may cause tree branches to break,” the special statement said.
“Utility outages may occur. Travel delays can be expected with this system. Rain may mix in at times along southern areas.”
