Significant snowfall coming Monday
New warning issued by weather service expands areas affected, bumps up timetable
The federal weather service upgraded a weather alert to a snowfall warning early Monday morning, expanding the areas falling under the advisory and reporting the snow will start earlier than originally indicated.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a special weather statement Sunday just before 4 p.m., advising of significant snowfall starting Monday night.

“Rapidly accumulating snow is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning for southern New Brunswick,” the advisory stated.
“A low pressure system will track along the Fundy coast Monday night. This low will bring snow to southern New Brunswick. It is possible that the track of the low may shift slightly over the next day or so.”
It forecast 10 to 15 centimetres of snow during that period, adding that it could be as much as 25 cm.
However, in a revised alert issued before 5 a.m. Monday, Environment and Climate Change Canada upgraded the special weather statement to a snowfall warning.
It capped snowfall totals at 15 cm, but cast a wider net over southern and central New Brunswick.
The areas of the province originally forecast to be affected included Fredericton and southern York County, Grand Lake and Queens County, Oromocto and Sunbury County, Fund National Park, Grand Manan and coastal Charlotte County, Kent County, Moncton and southeast New Brunswick, Saint John and County, St. Stephen and northern Charlotte County, Sussex, the Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County.
However, Monday’s alert added Miramichi, Kouchibougac National Park and Woodstock to those falling under the warning.
It also forecast the snow to be starting before Monday night, noting it would start falling Monday afternoon.
“Brief snowfall rates of two to four cm per hour are possible over some areas,” the snowfall warning stated.
“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”
