‘Significant rainfall’ possible for rest of week
Province shifts from heat warnings into alerts for major downpours Wednesday thru Friday
Even as heat warnings remained in effect through New Brunswick on Tuesday, the federal weather service warned of an approaching system that could pose different problems for the province.
Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather service issued a special weather statement Tuesday afternoon warning of a system that could bring downpours to parts of New Brunswick.

“Potential for significant rainfall Wednesday night into Friday,” it said, noting the advisory is in effect for most of the province, save for the northern-most areas.
“A slow-moving and somewhat disorganized weather system will move into the region beginning later Wednesday night and linger into Friday,” the weather statement said.
“While the rain could be intermittent through this period, complicating matters is that tropical moisture from the remnants of Beryl is expected to feed into this system. This could potentially enhance rainfall amounts and increase the risk of heavy rainfall rates.”
No rainfall warnings were in effect for New Brunswick, but the weather service noted it will monitor the situation closely and that such warnings could arise in areas found to be at risk.
“Similar events in the past have brought heavy downpours and pooling of water, as well as localized flooding in low-lying areas,” the special weather statement said.
Meanwhile, the heat warning initially issued for Monday and Tuesday remained in effect throughout the province, and Environment and Climate Change Canada advised it could persist into Wednesday for some areas - specifically central and eastern New Brunswick, which could include in the Fredericton region.
It forecast a maximum temperature for Wednesday of 31 C, with the humidity making it feel like 35 to 28 C.
