Sheffield crash claims three lives
Fatal accident early Sunday morning on Route 105 remains under investigation, says RCMP
Three people are dead after a single-vehicle crash in Sunday’s early-morning hours on Route 105 in Sheffield, just east of Fredericton, the RCMP reports.
“On July 14, 2024, at approximately 3:10 a.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP detachment responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash on Route 105 in Sheffield,” the force’s Oromocto detachment said in a news release Sunday afternoon.
“Three individuals who were occupants of the vehicle were located deceased.”
Police didn’t release the ages or genders of the victims of the crash.
“The crash is believed to have occurred when the vehicle, that was headed east on Route 105, swerved off the road, collided with a tree and caught fire,” the RCMP reported.
In addition to Mounties, members from the Oromocto Fire Department and personnel with Ambulance New Brunswick and the New Brunswick Coroner's Office also attended the scene.
“Autopsies will be scheduled to help positively identify the individuals, and to determine the causes of death,” the release said.
The RCMP brought in a collision reconstruction specialist to assist with the investigation, which is ongoing.
The Mounties had closed the road - locally referred to as the old Maugerville highway - due to the accident, but announced on social media just before 9 a.m. that it had been reopened to traffic.
