Sex offender gets community-based sentence
Sean Brett, 34, of Nasonworth, convicted after trial of summary count of sexual assault stemming from unwanted penile penetration during encounter with woman in 2022
A Nasonworth man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman two years ago was spared a jail sentence Thursday, but he wasn’t so lucky with his quest to avoid a sex-offender registration order.
Sean Brett, 34, of Bryson Road, stood trial earlier this year on a summary charge alleging he sexually assaulted a woman in Nasonworth between July 31 and Aug. 1, 2022.
The woman can’t be named, as there’s a court-ordered publication ban in place protecting her identity.
Justice Cameron Gunn - then a provincial court judge who’s since been elevated to the Court of King’s Bench - found Brett guilty after trial, and the matter was back before him Thursday for sentencing.
