Sex offender found criminally responsible
Brandon Lee Cote, 30, of Oromocto, accepts findings of psychiatric assessment report
A convicted sex offender accused of violating a court order to stay away from children isn’t exempt from criminal responsibility due to mental illness, a court heard Thursday.
Brandon Lee Cote, 30, of Finnamore Street in Oromocto, appeared in Fredericton provincial court by telephone from the Dalhousie Regional Correctional Centre on Thursday, scheduled to go through a hearing on an issue about his mental state.
Defence lawyer Edward Derrah asked last month for his client to be assessed by a forensic psychiatrist to determine if Cote was suffering from a mental disorder at the time of his recent alleged offences that would exempt him from criminal responsibility.
