Sex offender admits to assault
David John Nolais, 63, of Sheffield, jailed for giving false address to registration centre
A registered sex offender was jailed Wednesday for failing to keep authorities apprised of where he was living and working, and he also admitted to an unsettling assault on a teenage girl.
David John Nolais, 63, of Route 105, appeared in Fredericton provincial court Wednesday, scheduled for sentencing on four counts of violating a court order issued under the Sex Offender Information Registration Act (SOIRA), but also for trial on a summary charge of sexual assault.
However, defence lawyer Edward Derrah said his client, while maintaining his not-guilty plea on the sex-assault count, was offering a guilty plea on the included offence of summary assault.
Prosecutor Fréderique Bossé said that was acceptable to the Crown.
